It has slower windup before parry frames (which is why I never liked it personally, just like rapiers) you are better off using a small shield instead, which would be the next best tool for parry, probably the best in PvE since it's a shield.

Silver Knight Shield's pretty bad, especially when compared to your current shield. Stick with the Lothric Shield, as has already been said. Learning to parry with a medium shield is an uphill battle, but is very rewarding.
